Gratitude
As Muslims who are observing this year's Ramadan Fast, we must have a cause to be grateful to God for giving us the opportunity to pass through the first two phases of mercy and forgiveness.
We must, therefore, be grateful, by imbibing the culture of being beneficial to others and ever forgiving those who might have offended us. We should also be scripture compliant as stated in the Holy Quran 14: 7, '' And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.' "
Be cautious and be mindful of God and society. Ramadan Kareem.

The Harvesting Period
Be reminded of the fact that we are now in the third segment of the 30 days Ramadan Fast, also known as the period of reaping the fruits of our labor.
Itikaf or spiritual retreat is commanded to be observed in and around sacred mosques for us to be able to shun the hustle and bustle of city life and get concentrated on how best to be aligned with God and His injunctions, to be able to achieve perfect God/man relationship.
The summary of the intention, for the right observation of the Itikaf period, is stated in the Holy Quran 18: 10, ''..........Our Lord! Bestow on us mercy from thyself and dispose of our affair for us in the right way.'' Be rightly guided. Ramadan Kareem.

Knowledge for Guidance
Remember the message of Ramadan as a compulsory exercise in which we must have learned how to have self-restraint for us to be able to do things the right way and accordingly through the concept of the fear of God or due process.
Reflect on your past as being full of anomalies and decide to make the necessary adjustments for a better lifestyle of scripture compliance.
But make premium your needs and for the right knowledge and God's guidance that will always lead you to make the right decision always, most especially after the month of the Ramadan fast.
The Holy Quran 87: 6-9 refers, ''We shall make thee read so that thou shalt not forget. Save that which thou willeth! Lo! He knoweth that disclosed and that which still is hidden; and we shall ease thy way onto the state of ease, therefore, remind men(that is people) for use is the reminder.'' Be an exemplar. Ramadan Mubarak.

Significance of the Nigth of Power
Realize that the Holy Quran was descended down for mankind, the sacred month of Ramadan during the night of Power.
The Holy Quran 44: 1-4 refers, ''Ha, Meem. By the clear Book, Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. On that night is made distinct every precise matter -''
There is a need to go beyond the logic of even an old number to fix the night of power.
Once we have been able to take the opportunity of Ramadan to become wholesome in Islam and ever found wanting under the watch of scripture compliance, God the Almighty Allah Himself will touch you to accurately observe the night of power, when therein come down the angels and the spirit by Allah's permission on every errand. Ramadan Kareem.
Thursday, April 28th
Syllabus Coverage Essence
During the period of your, Itikaf reflect on the following, with respect to your spiritual development voluntary nawafil at the midnight during the month of Ramadan: 1) In-depth study of the Holy Quran. 2) In-depth analysis of the Holy Quran with detailed explanation and circumstances surrounding revelations. 3) What about voluntary almsgiving and compulsory almsgiving.
The essence of observing the above mentioned in the month of Ramadan could be likened to the way we acquire the wealth of education and experiences in schools for us to use for the rest of our lives.
Do not, therefore, abuse the availed opportunities offered in the month of Ramadan for you to be wholesome through the following verses of the Holy Quran which must become part and parcel of your lifestyle -33: 35, 2: 208-209, 3: 102, 11: 113 and the Holy Bible John 4: 34. Let all these verses be your study guide even after the Ramadan fast. Ramadan Mubarak.
Power Shift and the Same People

Powershift from one geographical area to another emphasizes the need for justice and equity.
Curiously, in reality, has power shifted all these years, considering the set of people involved?
The cosmetic transfer of power from the North to the South in the Nigerian context does not really hold water because it is the same class of people that are holding on to power.
Read-Helplessness in the Face of Dirt -Legalizing Crime and Criminality
Granting pardon, at the twilight of an administration, to former public office holders convicted of corruption, is worrisome.
But it is very important for those who have mismanaged the country's resources to cede power to those who are fit(mentally and physically)competent and capable to manage the country very well.

Those who have massive resources, deploy these resources to purchase their candidacies within their political parties either for Governorship, State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, or the Senate.
They don't care about individual voters but focus on how to manipulate the electoral process.
Rather than submit to the democratic process, they either want to continue in power or attain power by all means.

The decision of the Federal Government to block the lines of millions of Nigerians for failing to register for the National Identity Number(NIN) translates to the infringement of their Fundamental Human Rights.
This is the opinion of an Ex-Officio of the Oyo State Council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), who is also a former chairman of the union in the state, Comrade Andrew Emelieze.

''The Federal Government has blocked the lines of millions of Nigerians, this action tramples on their Fundamental Human Rights. It is undemocratic. Instead of resolving the myriad of challenges confronting the country, the Government has only added to the problems of Nigerians. This is disturbing and unacceptable,'' Comrade Emelieze lamented.

For the past seven years, the present administration in Nigeria has failed to provide the right impact and confidence in the minds of foreign investors.
An assessment and evaluation of the business environment reveal little or no progress has been made.
It is not in contention that with regular electricity supply, the successful implementation of an impressive business economic blueprint will remain a mirage.
Read-Helplessness in the Face of Dirt
Following the collapse of the National Grid three times in four weeks, the power supply problem seems to be beyond this administration.
The absence of a constant power supply has almost crippled all sectors of the economy coupled with the prohibitive cost of diesel.
-Legalizing Crime and Criminality
Nigerians are now asking very pertinent questions. How many megawatts of electricity did this administration meet when it assumed office in 2015? How many of the power generation stations are functional presently?
Without a doubt, the privatization of the power sector has not brought any form of relief for Nigerians but rather pains, hardships, and impoverishment.

In most countries around the world, the interest of an individual has never been greater than those of these countries.
However, this is not the case in several countries in sub-Saharan Africa.Indeed, a political party that has attained political power, is at an advantage to address the fundamental national question revolving around equality and justice.
Read-Helplessness in the Face of Dirt
Unfortunately, in Nigeria today, the political party in power is proud to have regional and ethnic alliances which have ensured a divided country.
The rule of law is increasingly being rubbished on a daily basis while political and religious intolerance is now the culture and tradition. The unabating state of insecurity and the unending violence which has claimed several thousands of lives, suggests that the former and the latter have become means to various ends for Those in Authority.
-Legalizing Crime and Criminality
A political party ought to be a medium for the expression of the choice of the electorate and the avenue through which like-minded people may express their collective choices with vigorous unanimity.
However, in the Nigerian context, a political party focuses on reinforcing the mindset of the present ruling political party elites and selling of land belonging to government owned schools in several states to supporters, cronies, admirers and well wishers.
-Landlords and Tenants Associations, Crime and Criminality
Those who have played and still play significant roles in subverting the will of the people are clinging to tightly to sensitive political offices, even as recent events have clearly shown that Those in authority are not interested in presenting a credible alternative set of leaders and alternative policy choices to Nigerians, most of whom have been impoverished and are disillusioned.
-Law Enforcement: The Reactionary Approach

Govt and Parents have roles to Play to check the Dwindling Performance of Students-Prof. Olagoke

- In The People Talk
The performance of pupils and students at the elementary, secondary, and tertiary levels of education in Nigeria, over the years, has become a source of worry and concern for parents, guardians, and other stakeholders in the education sector.
The prevalent mediocre staus that characterize the products of mots of these educational institutions now constitute a major reference point for various categories of discussants.
The Founder, Spiritual head, and Grand Imam of Shafaudeen-in-Islam Worldwide, Prof. Sabitu Olagoke opines that parents and guardians must put in more effort in grooming their children and wards, spiritually, morally, and educationally.
Prof. Olagoke also asserts that the government at all levels should initiate concrete policies that shall reduce hunger and poverty to the barest minimum while at the same time increasing the annual budgetary allocation for the education sector. Excerpts :
The overbearing influence of hunger and poverty in Nigeria has culminated in the lack of motivation and the attendant loss of commitment towards rendering selfless service is one of the major reasons for the unimpressive performance of pupils and students in both internal and external examinations.
The harsh environment brought about by economic hardships and insecurity is not conducive for learning.
The factors impeding the performance of pupils and students include the overbearing influence of parents and guardians on their children or wards on the choice of course of study. This is without consideration for the intelligence, interests, ability, and capability of these children and wards.
Other impediments include poor study habits, psychological adjustment problems, distraction, low retention, the effect of the wrong peer group, emotional challenges, low achievement motivation, health challenges, lack of financial support, and time management.
Read-Helplessness in the Face of Dirt
In addition to this, absenteeism and truancy are now adopted as a normal routine for several of these children due to the loss of interest in the academic programs.
For the parents, noticeable fundamental defects are lacking in the area of proper guidance and the provision of basic learning needs including reading materials.
Also, the inadequate interaction with the children and their teachers, family problems, and financial difficulties paint the parents in a bad light.
-Legalizing Crime and Criminality
For the teachers, the use of verbal reinforcement strategy is absent, punctuality is lacking, poor interpersonal relationships and the authoritarian approach to teaching are impediments. So also is the inequality among students.
Furthermore, the syllabus coverage is not encouraging, absenteeism is the order of the day, poor teaching methods dominate the school system, incessant strikes, and the diminishing interest in the quest to ensure that students understand what they are taught.
-Landlords and Tenants Associations, Crime and Criminality
For the school, the large class size with limited teaching materials constitutes major impediments.
Trailing the learning environment which is not conducive, is the shortage of reference materials for the practical courses and the use of audio-visual materials is non-existent.
Above all, there is no proper orientation towards research.
The Government must address the following to ensure that pupils' and students' performances improve :
1)Unstable educational policy.
2)Leadership problems and challenges.
3)Poor supervision and monitoring mechanism.
4)The shortage of specialist teachers in schools-capacity building essence must be regular and directed towards the areas of need.
5)No job security and a consistent report of job losses.
6)Poor salaries for teachers, irregular payment of their salaries, and the lack of incentives to motivate them.
When all these are addressed, pupils and students would be able to perform creditably well in internal and external examinations.

Caution has been thrown to the winds and Those-in-Charge in Nigeria today have gone into an external borrowing spree.
Presently, the country's external debt is about N39.56 trillion and at the end of the present administration, it shall be more.
In 50 Bc, Pubilius Syrus opined that debt is the slavery of the free. Syrus further asserted that a debtor is not only in perpetual bondage to his creditors until he returns his debts, but the debtor also breathes the air of insecurity characterized by harassment.

-Landlords and Tenants Associations, Crime and Criminality
The activities of the present administration revolve around the above-mentioned, even as the administration continues to cope with the creditors' domination of its affairs.
Several months to the 2023 general elections, the government is yet to achieve a more diversified economy away from the oil sector, public debts are on the increase, the worrisome deterioration of education and health services, the absence of potable water, and erratic supply of electricity, food insecurity is on the rise and worsening transportation system are all the major discussions among Nigerians.
-Legalizing Crime and Criminality
Of note, is the several billions of Naira, the Federal and State governments(Local Government an appendage) have plowed into infrastructural development with below minimal impact on real development.
Without a doubt, the glaring and embarrassing absence of transparency in governance and the unguarded waste of public funds by officials who enjoy blanket immunity now threaten the gains of development beyond the majority of Nigeria's population in the coming years.

The Legislature at all levels of government have from time immemorial depended on the executive for their survival. To this extent, the lawmakers are always exposed to the arm-twisting tactics of Those-in-Charge.

Several instances abound wherein the committees on public accounts and other committees discover irregularities in the budget preparation and implementation of a sizable number of Ministries, Departments and Agencies(MDA)in the course of carrying out their oversight functions.
-Legalizing Crime and Criminality
The committees usually send out notice of invitations to the Ministers and other heads of the MDAs, sadly, such invitations were ignored without consequences.
Indeed, all those in this dispensation are witnesses to the promotion of impunity and double standards, even as the suggestion is that Those-in-Charge are now preoccupied with preparations for life after governance.
-Landlords and Tenants Associations, Crime and Criminality
The suffocating security situation across Nigeria and the priorities of certain heads of law enforcement agencies including focusing on the mode of dressing of their personnel has not brought reprieve in any way.
Security lapses in several states have been recorded with a wave of the hands, even though lives were lost. The fact that concrete efforts are yet to be made to address the worrisome situation, puts the blame at the doorstep of the Powers of today.
Criminals now perpetrate various forms of crime-heinous and grievous- without the expected consequences. The followers are also an integral part of the hydra like problems.
-Law Enforcement: The Reactionary Approach
Unfortunately, personalities who ought be role models to all and sundry have continuously and repeatedly identified with the non-state actors responsible for the insecurity all over the country. However, the people are already making the above mentioned a major reference point.
Nigerians across the six geo-political zones are now patiently waiting for the general elections in 2023 to vote out all those who have been labelled the Powers of today at all levels of government and are behind the sorrows, evil, pains, anguish and lamentations in the land.
The failure of a government involves all who are in the government. It is a collective failure. In addition, aspirations to political offices ought to revolve around integrity, performance and accountability rather than blind loyalty and sycophancy.

It is very sad to come to terms with the fact that the 30, 000 Naira national minimum wage is nothing compared with the suffering occasioned by the Government facilitated economic hardships Nigerians are passing through.
Indeed, a number of states take their workers for granted by ensuring prompt payment of salaries even though the national minimum wage is not yet in existence in the affected states.

Protection of Pension Rights by Prof. Sabitu Olagoke

Pension rights set the ethical standards of due process that would guarantee a good future for the retiree after leaving service.
A case study of Nigeria refers : if an employee retires at the age of 50 years or more, he or she can have immediate access to the Retirement Savings Account(RSA).
Similarly, if an employee retires before the age of 50 years due to mental or physical incapacitation, he or she can have easy access to the retirement savings account.
Read-Legalizing Crime and Criminality
It is important to note and state that an employee who retires under the age of 50 years in accordance with the terms and conditions of employment will not access the RSA until after six months of retirement, if he or she does not secure another employment.
-Landlords and Tenants Associations, Crime and Criminality
Cases of embezzlement by personnel in charge of pension scheme management has attracted international embarrassment to nations where such corrupt practices have been reported to occur. Such action, has on record, led to the untimely death of many retirees that fell victims within the period of dashed hopes.
From the religious perspective , it is inhuman to cheat on people that have, over the years worked for their livelihood. This is more worrisome when there is an unwarranted delay in the payment of their gratuities as well as their pensions, such actions if left unaddressed may lead to people still in service to become kleptomaniacs for the fear of the future.

The importance of the Local Government revolves around the need to attend to the expectations and welfare of the people at the grassroots.
In addition, the Local Government plays a vital role in Federal schemes of education, housing, transport among others, nationwide. It adopts the mainline of policy to local conditions.
Read-Legalizing Crime and Criminality
Sadly, the Local Government, under the present dispensation in Nigeria, is not independent.

The survival of democracy depends to a great extent, on the just and efficient working of the courts of law.
The people look up to these courts for reprieve against those who interfere with their rights.
Through the declaration and application of law, the courts make public in provisions are not subject to the will of an arbitrary, Government, but rather to a known and accepted set of rules .
Read-Legalizing Crime and Criminality
In the present dispensation, the activities of the courts, when it comes to the dispensation of justice in civil and criminal matters, have not met the expectations of the people.
The quality of an unspecified number of Magistrates and Justices, who perhaps leave most of the work to their clerks is a discredit to the system.
The attitude, competence and integrity of judicial workers is also not a credit to the system.
-Landlords and Tenants Associations, Crime and Criminality
Sadly, the combination of the rule ‘’no wrong without remedy’’, with the Rule of Law, does not protect the citizen from unlawful imprisonment or other injury at the hands of Government officials and agents. This has resulted in countless number of illegal detentions.
Not surprisingly, the enemies of democracy, by creating insecurity, has led this administration, one step after the other, to curtail liberty on the pretext of preserving peace.
-Law Enforcement: The Reactionary Approach
In a democracy, the transparent recruitment and training of law enforcement agents and the appointment of judges and magistrates substantially determines the functionality of the rule of law.
All levels of Government, irrespective of political party affiliation are obsessed with power and since they are composed of human beings, they are inclined to resent criticism, and see in ti a danger to the peace, where none exists.
A Government with intentions to persecute, will naturally begin with the more unpopular personalities, and the arbitrary treatment of them will serve as a precedent for other sections in time to come.

The lack of discipline among the youth has been identified as one of the causes of youth related problems in Nigeria.
This view was expressed on Monday by the Founder, Spiritual Head and Grand Imam of Shafaudeen-in-Isalm Worldwide, Prof. Sabitu Olagoke at the 22nd of the Annual Engr. Prof. S.A Olagoke Education competition in Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria.
