Hidden Damages

Public 3Caution has been thrown to the winds and Those-in-Charge in Nigeria today have gone into an external borrowing spree.
Presently, the country's external debt is about N39.56 trillion and at the end of the present administration, it shall be more.
In 50 Bc, Pubilius Syrus opined that debt is the slavery of the free. Syrus further asserted that a debtor is not only in perpetual bondage to his creditors until he returns his debts, but the debtor also breathes the air of insecurity characterized by harassment.

The activities of the present administration revolve around the above-mentioned, even as the administration continues to cope with the creditors' domination of its affairs.
Several months to the 2023 general elections, the government is yet to achieve a more diversified economy away from the oil sector, public debts are on the increase, the worrisome deterioration of education and health services, the absence of potable water, and erratic supply of electricity, food insecurity is on the rise and worsening transportation system are all the major discussions among Nigerians.

-Legalizing Crime and Criminality
Of note, is the several billions of Naira, the Federal and State governments(Local Government an appendage) have plowed into infrastructural development with below minimal impact on real development.
Without a doubt, the glaring and embarrassing absence of transparency in governance and the unguarded waste of public funds by officials who enjoy blanket immunity now threaten the gains of development beyond the majority of Nigeria's population in the coming years.

-Law Enforcement: The Reactionary Approach
Interestingly, Sun Tzu in his book, The Art of War, stated, ''Internal spies are enemy officials who we employ''.
To this extent, some of those within the corridors of power who are employees at all levels of government have done more hidden damages that may never be discovered.

The Patient Wait

Govt 1The Legislature at all levels of government have from time immemorial depended on the executive for their survival. To this extent, the lawmakers are always exposed to the arm-twisting tactics of Those-in-Charge.

Read-Helplessness in the Face of Dirt

Several instances abound wherein the committees on public accounts and other committees discover irregularities in the budget preparation and implementation of a sizable number of Ministries, Departments and Agencies(MDA)in the course of carrying out their oversight functions.

-Legalizing Crime and Criminality

The committees usually send out notice of invitations to the Ministers and other heads of the MDAs, sadly, such invitations were ignored without consequences.

Indeed, all those in this dispensation are witnesses to the promotion of impunity and double standards, even as the suggestion is that Those-in-Charge are now preoccupied with preparations for life after governance.

-Landlords and Tenants Associations, Crime and Criminality

The suffocating security situation across Nigeria and the priorities of certain heads of law enforcement agencies including focusing on the mode of dressing of their personnel has not brought reprieve in any way.

Security lapses in several states have been recorded with a wave of the hands, even though lives were lost. The fact that concrete efforts are yet to be made to address the worrisome situation, puts the blame at the doorstep of the Powers of today.

Criminals now perpetrate various forms of crime-heinous and grievous- without the expected consequences. The followers are also an integral part of the hydra like problems.

-Law Enforcement: The Reactionary Approach

Unfortunately, personalities who ought be role models to all and sundry have continuously and repeatedly identified with the non-state actors responsible for the insecurity all over the country. However, the people are already making the above mentioned a major reference point.

Nigerians across the six geo-political zones are now patiently waiting for the general elections in 2023 to vote out all those who have been labelled the Powers of today at all levels of government and are behind the sorrows, evil, pains, anguish and lamentations in the land.

The failure of a government involves all who are in the government. It is a collective failure. In addition, aspirations to political offices ought to revolve around integrity, performance and accountability rather than blind loyalty and sycophancy.

Sunset-The Farewell Days are Here

Failure 2From all possible indicators, the Government is either already helpless or deliberately playing out a well written script, as the pump price of the Petroleum Motor Spirit(PMS) gradually soars above the reach of disillusioned and impoverished Nigerians.

Read-Helplessness in the Face of Dirt

Interestingly, a bottle of Kerosene now sells for 300.00 Naira and the attitude and performances of Government at the State and Local Government levels, have not in any way ameliorated the almost hopeless situation.

-Legalizing Crime and Criminality

It is very sad to come to terms with the fact that the 30, 000 Naira national minimum wage is nothing compared with the suffering occasioned by the Government facilitated economic hardships Nigerians are passing through.

Indeed, a number of states take their workers for granted by ensuring prompt payment of salaries even though the national minimum wage is not yet in existence in the affected states.

The Kano state Government is tinkering with the idea of reverting the workers' salaries to 18,000 Naira. This is a bad omen for Nigerians just as the Government at all levels are in their sunset period, putting finishing touches to governance.

-Landlords and Tenants Associations, Crime and Criminality

However, the explanations by an unspecified number of civil and public servants on the whereabouts of unaccounted funds shall go a long way in making the government at all levels convincingly accountable to the people.

Nigeria Needs Credible and Visionary Leadership-Prof. Olagoke

Prof 5In Nigeria, the Government at all levels are now rounding up their activities in preparation for the end of this dispensation. Based on this premise, the Founder, Spiritual Head and Grand Imam of Shafaudeen-in-Isalm Worldwide, Prof. Sabitu Olagoke opines that the people’s representatives have not been above board in their performances. Excerpts :

Governance is better articulated through the system of justice and equity concept, where all forms of discrimination and marginalization would be absent for it to be productive for enhanced prosperity.

Nigeria needs to provide a leadership that is credible and visionary.

Nigeria cannot be said to have those who represent them in government , who have been transparent and selfless to the extent of reducing hunger, diseases and poverty that is prevalent everywhere.

Leadership1Read-Helplessness in the Face of Dirt

The representatives have done little or nothing to address the worrisome absence of basic amenities, food insecurity, shortage of houses for the people among several other inadequacies.

The failure of governance at all levels in Nigeria has manifested in the declining capacity of political leaders and representatives of the people to recognize the systemic risks such as inherent and embedded in the following anti -societal acts and practices viz electoral malpractices, terrorism, armed robbery, kidnappings for ransom and ritual, ritual killings and police brutality.

-Legalizing Crime and Criminality

It is unfortunate to note that Nigeria lacks a system of government in which leadership is based on capability that is competence, good work attitude, timely response to the yearnings of the people, meritocracy and the promotion of excellence.

-Landlords and Tenants Associations, Crime and Criminality

Rather than the above mentioned, governance in Nigeria has been overwhelmed by individuals who attain power through nepotism rather than competence as evident in the following anti-social practices : Influencing voters with food rather than vision, the consolidation of power through intimidation or the imposition of candidates who are unknown to the people.

Pension

Protection of Pension Rights by Prof. Sabitu Olagoke

Prof 5Pension rights set the ethical standards of due process that would guarantee a good future for the retiree after leaving service.

A case study of Nigeria refers : if an employee retires at the age of 50 years or more, he or she can have immediate access to the Retirement Savings Account(RSA).

Similarly, if an employee retires before the age of 50 years due to mental or physical incapacitation, he or she can have easy access to the retirement savings account.

Read-Legalizing Crime and Criminality

It is important to note and state that an employee who retires under the age of 50 years in accordance with the terms and conditions of employment will not access the RSA until after six months of retirement, if he or she does not secure another employment.

Pension 1-Landlords and Tenants Associations, Crime and Criminality

Cases of embezzlement by personnel in charge of pension scheme management has attracted international embarrassment to nations where such corrupt practices have been reported to occur. Such action, has on record, led to the untimely death of many retirees that fell victims within the period of dashed hopes.

From the religious perspective , it is inhuman to cheat on people that have, over the years worked for their livelihood. This is more worrisome when there is an unwarranted delay in the payment of their gratuities as well as their pensions, such actions if left unaddressed may lead to people still in service to become kleptomaniacs for the fear of the future.

The ADC issued this warning through its Director, Richard Ngomo, who lamented that several Kenyans have been swindled by the fraudsters.
“ADC land is not for sale. ADC has not given land, especially in the Coast region. Anybody purporting to be selling ADC land is doing so at his own risk. The Rule of Law

MagThe survival of democracy depends to a great extent, on the just and efficient working of the courts of law.

The people look up to these courts for reprieve against those who interfere with their rights.

Through the declaration and application of law, the courts make public in provisions are not subject to the will of an arbitrary, Government, but rather to a known and accepted set of rules .

Read-Legalizing Crime and Criminality

In the present dispensation, the activities of the courts, when it comes to the dispensation of justice in civil and criminal matters, have not met the expectations of the people.

The quality of an unspecified number of Magistrates and Justices, who perhaps leave most of the work to their clerks is a discredit to the system.

The attitude, competence and integrity of judicial workers is also not a credit to the system.

-Landlords and Tenants Associations, Crime and Criminality

Sadly, the combination of the rule ‘’no wrong without remedy’’, with the Rule of Law, does not protect the citizen from unlawful imprisonment or other injury at the hands of Government officials and agents. This has resulted in countless number of illegal detentions.

Not surprisingly, the enemies of democracy, by creating insecurity, has led this administration, one step after the other, to curtail liberty on the pretext of preserving peace.

-Law Enforcement: The Reactionary Approach

In a democracy, the transparent recruitment and training of law enforcement agents and the appointment of judges and magistrates substantially determines the functionality of the rule of law.

All levels of Government, irrespective of political party affiliation are obsessed with power and since they are composed of human beings, they are inclined to resent criticism, and see in ti a danger to the peace, where none exists.

A Government with intentions to persecute, will naturally begin with the more unpopular personalities, and the arbitrary treatment of them will serve as a precedent for other sections in time to come.

The Erosion of Discipline cause of Youth Related Problems in Nigeria-Prof. Olagoke

DisciplineThe lack of discipline among the youth has been identified as one of the causes of youth related problems in Nigeria.

This view was expressed on Monday by the Founder, Spiritual Head and Grand Imam of Shafaudeen-in-Isalm Worldwide, Prof. Sabitu Olagoke at the 22nd of the Annual Engr. Prof. S.A Olagoke Education competition in Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria.

‘’We have lost the focus of discipline that is why we are having problems with the youth. While the security agents are doing their work, the parents too have a lot to do. Religion complements the work of the parents to the extent that there is discipline, growth and development of their children. Don’t let us be pessimistic, we should be optimistic, things shall change for the better. The youth related problems shall fizzle out when we have a god government in power,’’ Prof. Olagoke stated.

Democracy in the Claws of Dictatorship

When the Government is desperate and resolute to cling to power, in the face of the unfavorable outcome of elections, election and the existence of political parties opposing the government do not constitute evidences of democracy.
Indeed, a number of countries have the forms of democracy, but the reality of dictatorship.

Without doubt there is a vital difference between democracy and dictatorship, however, it varies from one country to another.

Leadership and Followership Essence in Democracy By Prof. Sabitu Olagoke

Prof 5Democracy in the real sense is expected to be a consensus of opinions by all relevant stakeholders, whereby the need of the people are addressed by those entrusted with the power to rule for the purposes of the continuous improvement on the welfare of the people and their wellness.

  Read-Legalizing Crime and Criminality

2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.''

It demands, therefore, voting into office credible leaders who wil address the enligtenment essence of the people to be governed for ease of followership.
The leadership and followership synergy must be viewed through the perspective of enabling a good justice system for the effective  implementation of programs and projects through the concept of equity for the system to enjoy peace and sustainable development.

The Holy Quran 38: 26 on the issue of justice and equity as the bedrock of a functional democracy, (Prophet(Dawud) is used an epitome of rulership by example). It refers, '' O david ! We did indeeed make theea vicegerent  on earth : so judge thou between men in truth and justice : nor  follow thou the lust of thy heart(say no to dictatorship), for it will mislead thee from thee from the path  of Allah : for those who wander astray from the path of Allah, is a Chastisement Grievous, for that they forget the Day of Account.''

Govt 2

The Necessity for Change

Govt 6The function of a government goes beyond ensuring law and order, the arrangements to permit change must be functional. Change must revolve around consent and permission from the people.

In several climes, the toleration of criticisms by governments attracted peaceful change and those who had visible potentials to partake in government are brought on board. But sadly, the fact that legislative chambers at the Federal and a number of states did not meet the minimum constitutionally stipulated sitting requirements in the outgone year is a great setback.

Indeed, there is no ideal government for all places and there is no ideal for all times.

The security situation across Nigeria, the attitude of security and law enforcement personnel, and government go beyond scratching the surface.

When Government does not change promptly with the situation, the people become a major part of the challenges confronting the government.

The experience of France at the end of the 18th century and Russia in the 20th century is instructive on the necessity for change.

Note

The docile nature of government officials, for pecuniary reasons, can be seen in the activities of an individual who sighted poultry at No. 2 Kehinde Aderibigbe Street, Olorunsogo, Molete, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria(red gate).

Sighting poultry in a residential area constitutes a great danger to residents while the several numbers of doubtful characters who visit the poultry on a daily basis pose security threats for residents who still contend with crime and criminality.

Government must live up to its responsibilities.

Liberty 1

The Right to Personal Liberty by Prof. Sabitu Olagoke

Prof 5From the religious point of view, the right to personal liberty of any individual is naturally restricted, when sinful acts are committed, criminal or civil, in a way that the long hands of the law catches up with such an individual. As a result such a person’s movement is restricted.

There is a need for all to conscious of the fact that the right to personal liberty guarantees the quality or state of being free. This makes us to realize the fact that the ability to do as one pleases must not be abused, since it guarantees a benefit of freedom from physical restraint, freedom from arbitrary or despotic control and the positive benefits of various socio-political or economic rights and privileges.

Liberty 2

The right to personal liberty is freely enjoyed by children and the youth in their Id and ego stages of life, whereby parents are totally responsible for their care and protection. This is why good parenting is required to ensure that the children enjoy the right to personal liberty under their parents.

In the general society, the power or scope to act as one pleases extends to the state of being free withing the society, from oppressive restrictions imposed by the authorities on an individual’s way of life.

This equally bothers on the two perspectives of behavior and political inclination.

This makes it imperative for every citizen to be law abiding by ensuring that one’s liberty is never used in form of abuse or in an act which may be harmful to a person, society or the nation at large.

Indeed, personal liberty must be cherished by channeling it towards the positive aspects life to make one independent, self-sufficient, innovative and creative, straightforward person to be trusted.

Personal liberty leads to the empowerment of the citizen, who contributes positively to a nation’s development.

The right to personal liberty, therefore, ensures that every citizen irrespective of status is entitled to personal liberty and must not be deprived of such liberty, except in a procedure permitted by law.

The People's Opinion

Government policies revolving around austerity measures, unemployment, stagnant salaries, rising prices of essentials, indiscriminate and multiple taxation  among others are all reflections of the extent to which Those-in-Charge are now unpopular.

Several people unfriendly policies have successfully rubbished governance.

Sadly, officials of the administration have so far been unable to convincingly explain and defend the administration’s actions and policies that have brought about excruciating hardships on the people.

Regardless of the poor state of the economy, Those-in-Charge have continued to borrow and spend without recourse to saving.

Democracy 1

A bad democracy is not good merely because it is a democracy; and any form of government that is not a democracy is bad, for uncontrolled power invariably corrupts those who possess it.

They are not always right, but Those-in-Charge have sacrificed national interest as they see it in order to obtain a present political party advantage.

The imminent lose of political power by Those-in-Charge abounds in the opinion of the distraught, disillusioned and impoverished people.

Under the present situation, real income is very low due to low productivity.
The inducement to invest is also very low as a result of the low purchasing power of the people.
What has the government done to ameliorate the situation?

Law and order

Law and Order by Prof. Sabitu Olagoke

Prof olagokeLaw and order is an instrument that determines happenings in an environment to prevent insecurity and other unsavory situations. There is a saying that goes thus, '' Where there is no law, there is no sin.''
This implies that the aberrations of life such as waywardness and frivolities are avoidable.
Law and order encourage the people to do the right thing for the good of all. In any environment wherein law and order are effective, the safety of lives and properties are guaranteed.
For the leadership network in government to ensure law and order, the right policies must be in place in addition to the assurance that justice and equity are enabled.
When justice and equity are lacking in governance would experience a myriad of challenges.
The election and appointment of people of integrity who are competent to manage the affairs of any institution or government are imperative.
The breakdown of law and order could bring in its wake, the mismanagement of resources and poor governance.

Law and order 1
Law and order ensure that there is the promotion of accountability in the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of government. This, in turn, facilitates public confidence, support, and trust for the government.
The dictates of the constitution must be obeyed by both the government and the people, for the law and order to thrive.
The Civil and Public service laws regulate the affairs of the Civil and Public servants. The  Scripture regulates and controls the affairs of religious adherents.
Professional ethics must be followed to the letter to be corporate in professional practices.
In the final analysis, the constitution of any nation, therefore, must be effectively utilized without abuse to promote justice and equity for ensuring a safe and secured society that must be sustained through peace and accelerated development.
