Pay Teachers Good Salaries-Former NUT Official

The government and private school owners have been advised to  motivate teachers with attractive salaries.

This advice was given by  a former official of  the Oyo state wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers(NUT),Comrade Olu Abiala on Thursday during the 2023 World Teachers' Day celebration organized by the NUT in badan, Oyo state, Nigeria.

''Public and private school owners need to invest more in teachers' wages and salaries to motivate  teachers to give their best for the development of Nigeria tomorrow. The vision of growth  and development within the time-frame can only  be achieved in Nigeria with the appropriate manpower, and in adequate quantity and quality. Only sincere commitment to investment in the teachers, today in terms of a comprehensive welfare package, can make that dream come true tomorrow.''

In his remarks, the chairman of the union in the state, Comrade Raji Oladimeji  called on the state government to urgently address the issue of shortage of teachers in primary schools in the state.

''May I present the following humble request to teachers for prompt attention and approval from Your Excellency : Urgent  recruitment of qualified and competent teachers to fill the important vacancies in our primary schools across the state'', Comrade Oladimeji stated.

This advice was handed down on Wednesday by a former councilor of the Ibadan South East Local Government council, Honorable Tunde Yusuf.

'' The Oyo state government must ensure that all those who will receive the palliatives it plans to distribute are not only its supporters, well wishers, admirers and loyalists, but also indigenes and residents who are also Nigerians,'' Honorable Yusuf stated.

LGs in Oyo state have gone into Extinction-Former Councillor

ACCESSORIZE IT:JUMIA GLOBAL

Grass 1Democracy is not in place at the Local Government Level in Nigeria.
This assertion was made by a former Councillor in the Ibadan South East Local Government Area of Oyo state, Honorable Yusuf Babatunde.
''Although elections are conducted by the local governments in Oyo state, those who are there now got to the positions by selection. This is a bad approach. The state governments in the affected states have now taken over the sources of revenue  of the local governments, including their functions. The chairmen and councillors receive only salaries. They are now expressing regrets. The local governments are no longer empowered financially as, as a result, they have been crippled. It is a one-man show,'' Hon. Babatunde lamented.

Make Peace and Rehabilitation of inland Roads Your Priority-Oyo Chairman Non-indigenes Traditional Heads to Gov

Eze 7Non-Indigenes in Ibadan and Oyo state have appealed to the  re-elected Governor of the state to vigorously sustain the prevailing peace and tranquility in the state in his second term in office.

This appeal was made on behalf of the Non-indigenes by the Eze ndigbo of Ibadan and Oyo state, Eze(Dr.) Alex Anozie, who doubles as the chairman of the Association of Non-indigenes Traditional Heads in the state in their congratulatory message.

Eze(Dr.) Anozie also called on the state Governor to ensure the speedy rehabilitation of several bad roads in the state capital and across the state.

''I am saying a very big congratulation to our young, amiable and dynamic Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde. I am saying this on behalf of myself, all Ndibgo and Non-Indigenes Traditional Heads in Oyo state, of which I am the chairman . We are happy because God has answered our prayers and blessed him, the Governor, with the opportunity to serve a second term. We wish him all the best and we pray to God almighty to continue to bless him with good health, wisdom and guidance from above, for him to even do better during his second term.''

''He will now become the second person to run for a second term in Oyo state. I want to give him a challenge as partners in progress to continue to ensure that there is peace and unity which is already in place in Oyo state and to continue to be in place. Let him continue to show love to all and sundry in the state and God will continue to bless him. And let him try as much as possible, to fulfill promises he made during his campaign for a second term. More importantly, we are still noticing roads that are bad in Oyo state, particularly in Ibadan. The governor should strive to revamp those roads and make sure they are in a good state, particularly the inland roads.''

''Most of the major roads are in good condition, but the inland roads are terribly bad. Let him use his second term to give Ibadan city very good roads. I am assuring him that we, in our positions as leaders of the people, of our maximum cooperation towards the maintenance of peace and orderliness in the state. I believe that anywhere there is good leadership, the followers always listen and they all keep peace wherever they reside. So, we wish the governor good luck and God's favor in all ramifications,'' Eze(Dr.) Anozie stated.

Eze(Dr.) Anozie also blamed the unpleasant happenings on political leaders who fail to caution their followers, saying, ''Let me use this opportunity to congratulate and appreciate all the political parties ' gubernatorial candidates, those who could not make it and those who made it. The greatest achievement they have to their credit is the prevailing peace in Oyo state. Oyo state is more peaceful than so many other states. That has portrayed various parties' gubernatorial candidates as gentlemen and good politicians. I am saying kudos to all of them.
I have always said that the best should be doing politics without bitterness. Then I am appealing to the authorities and to all the mercenaries concerned in midwifing our elections to find a solution to the rigging of elections and violence during elections.
This is in addition to all other vices bringing about tension in our elections.
And I believe that thuggery in whatever form in our elections will be a thing of the past if the needful is done.
I want to put the blame on the doorstep of political groups, because if the leaders caution their supporters on the need not to cause violence, the snatching of ballot boxes and the  breach of peace, their followers will listen.
So one is tempted to take the blame on most political parties. Followers always like to listen to their leaders. So maybe the leaders are not cautioning their followers enough. Maybe that is why we are having violence everywhere.

The Sacredness of Human Lives
The apex bank has decided to force business owners in Nigeria to close shop with its suicidal 18 per cent lending rate. This is worrisome, even when it is a known fact that a lot of innocent blood has been shed. Those responsible will account for their evil deeds. Human lives ought to be sacred.

Unsustainable safe drinking water projects in Oyo State by Dr. Raymond Adegboyega

RayGenerally, access to a safe drinking water facility is recognized as a basic human need and a pre-

Also, safe drinking water carries significant health benefits. In Oyo State, efforts to improve drinking water facilities have been insufficient and off track.
Lack of proper drinking water, ingestion of unsafe water and inadequate availability of water for

Use NNPC Profits to Build Quality Hospitals-Eze(Dr.)Anozie

                                                             Press Release

The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC) first audited financial statements after 43 years of its operation this period and as never been in the years past, I am suggesting that the federal government should make use of it, if not all, part of it, to construct those particular types of hospitals found abroad that lures almost all Nigerians into traveling abroad for treatment.

Such should be constructed in these six geo-political zones, one for each zone. Exactly the types of hospitals and facilities that could be found overseas.

In addition, the government should encourage our well-qualified Nigerian medical Doctors and specialists, to come back to the country to render their expert services in those hospitals.

Expatriates specialists should also be employed to work there. The elite, political class, and other categories of Nigerians would be treated in these hospitals. It is possible. By so doing, we would have invested very well in this profits accruing to the NNPC.

But I am worried about the mindset of the medical Doctors and specialists considering the unabating insecurity in the country, they may be afraid to come to the country.

Finally, let us all join hands together to pray fervently and ceaselessly for peace and unity while the Government at all levels should do everything possible to put an end to the insecurity in the country, to make the above laudable suggestions possible.

When all these have been done, you can imagine the humungous amount the country would save from medical tourism, foreign exchange wise.

Legalizing Crime and Criminality

Crim1In a society where justice and the rule of law prevails, the community leaders, members of the Landlords and Tenants Association, law enforcement agents(agencies), and residents of Olorunsogo, Molete, Molusi, Solanke, Oyegbami, Scout Camp,Aluko/Barracksand Felele communities in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria who sponsored hoodlums wielding stones, matchets, and iron rods to attack and injure a resident of 3, Kehinde Aderibigbe Street, Olorunsogo, Molete ought to be brought to justice.

Sadly, this is not the case.

In addition, those behind the vandalization and looting of 3, Kehinde Aderibiggbe Street, Olorunsogo, Molete are still walking the streets freely full of boasts and acting persistently with impunity. Why is this so? Perhaps, crime and criminality are now means to several ends for Those-in-Charge, who may have severed ties with the attributes of good and focused leadership.

Oyo Ezendigbo-The Matter is still in Court-Eze(Dr.)Anozie

The Ezendigbo of Ibadan and Oyo state, Eze(Dr.) Alex Anozie insists that he is still the head of the  Igbos in Ibadan and Oyo state by virtue of the fact that there has not been any judgment  nullifying the judgment of the high court in his favor. Eze(Dr.)Anozie made this disclosure in a statement as follows :

''The matter is still in court like they rightly said. And a high court has given judgment in my favor as the authentic Head of Igbos in Ibadan and Oyo state. And my opponent appealed the case which is still in the Appeal Court and even the  Supreme court.''
''So I am sure His imperial Majesty who is the father to all of us he is trying to prove that he is a law-abiding monarch by saying let's allow the court to finish with the matter, the high court judgment stated that I should continue to parade myself as the Ezendigbo/Onyendu of Ibadan and Oyo state and that my opponent should stop parading himself as same and that no court has vacated the judgment up till this moment, be it appeal or supreme court. ''
''They, our opponent even applied for a stay of execution against the judgment but it was not granted. His Imperial Majesty, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, and his council-we respect them so much and we love them so much and I am happy that this is my 24th year as the head of my people in this part of the country and everybody is witness that I have been leading my people to live peacefully in Ibadan and Oyo state.''
''Our respect and love for the Olubadan cannot change. So, the case is still in court.
The court judgment in my favor still subsists. We are aware that some people are going about circulating lies against us, but God almighty who never fails can never be deceived. We are going to maintain the peace. They are only trying to show the world that they believe in the rule of law, Eze(Dr. ) Anozie concluded.

Olorunsogo Molete Residents Vandalize Private Property in Ibadan

RepResidents of Olorunsogo, Molete, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria have vandalized a private property at 3, Kehinde Aderibigbe street and converted the same to a refuse dump.
The residents acting on the orders of some government officials and community leaders instructed the cultists and other categories of criminals, including their children, to threaten, intimidate and attack the occupant of the private property.
The criminals have on all occasions, inflicted bodily harm on the occupant.
.
The presence of a fair-complexioned woman of easy virtue, also known as Mama Bisoye, who also owns a beer parlor at Amoke Mall in the community and a resident of No.4 of the same street, is the stimulus, a fair-complexioned policeman required to boost the image of the criminals, while he drives a Rio Kia of the Oyo State Government Security outfit,  Special Response Squad(SRS).
Prominent among the criminals, who mostly hang out at beer parlors, hotels, and a deserted building behind the vandalized private property in the community, is one Nnanna of No. 5,  of the same street, Tobi Adesanya(Ijoba) whose mother grinds pepper and tomato in the community at No. 6 and Lekan Adewale, whose mother also sells tomato at No. 8 of the same street, where the criminals have operated for several years.
The criminals who are brazen and daring openly boast that they have the consent of the law enforcement agents and some government officials to terrorize the occupant of the private property, in a nation guided by due process and the rule of law.

Orosanye Report-Are Workers in Nigeria not Working ?-AWC

The All Workers Convergence(AWC) has called on the Federal Government in Nigeria to give cogent reasons why the looming sack of Federal workers cannot be postponed.

The AWC made this call through its National Coordinator, Comrade Andrew Emelieze.

‘’The question workers in Nigeria are asking in all these notification of the implementation of the Oronsaye report, is that the workers that shall be affected are they not working ? Is Nigeria broke ? Where is the billions of Dollars in the foreign reserve ? This is the period that Government is supposed to be protecting lives and livelihood. Why should it now focus on the implementation of the Oronsaye report. Workers in the country need answers to all these questions’’, Comrade Emelieze concluded.

Paliatives

Coronavirus- Govt Palliatives Ought to Cut Across Ethnic Groups-Eze(Dr.)Anozie

Eze 1The Oyo state Government has been advised to ensure that the palliatives to be distributed to poor and vulnerable Nigerians cuts across all the ethnic groups in the state.

This advice was given by the Eze Ndigbo of Ibadan and Oyo state, who is also the Vice Chairman(South) of the Eze Ndigbo in Diaspora, Eze Dr. Alex Anozie.

‘’As the Head of Igbos in Ibadan and Oyo state, I believe in justice for all Nigerians and all ethnic groups in Ibadan and Oyo state and I believe that whatever the Government decides to do, whatever palliative steps they decide to take for the benefit of all, they should do it and let all ethnic groups enjoy the benefits. So, I do not want to come out and begin to shout ’see my people Ndigbo’, when I know that the problem that is on ground is affecting everybody. So what I am saying is that whatever the Government intends to do, should be for the benefit of Ndigbo, NdiYoruba, NdiHausa and all other ethnic groups residing in Oyo state. And again, I want to remind all through this medium, that I and my group constitute the legitimate leadership of the Igbos in Ibadan and Oyo state, as ruled by a court of competent jurisdiction. And no other superior court has given another judgment vacating that judgment which states that I and my group constitute the legitimate leadership of Igbos in Ibadan and Oyo state’’.

‘’Therefore, we believe that the Oyo state Government is a law abiding Government which we are sure would never, never allow anybody or group to deceive it. The court judgment is the highest authority as far as the Nigerian constitution is concerned. So, we expect the state Government, been a law abiding Government to reach out to us as the legitimate leadership of Igbos in Ibadan and Oyo state. So whatever is happening, whatever the Government intends to do, all Nigerians in Oyo state should benefit from the palliative measures. We thank God for giving our Governor fast healing from the coronavirus pandemic, same also goes for the Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital(UCH) and a few others. We shall continue to pray to God that very soon we shall overcome the coronavirus pandemic. It shall become a thing of the past. Those who are yet to be healed, we pray that God should heal them fast.’’

‘’Let me also use this medium to appeal to all and sundry to keep strictly to both the Government’s directives and those of medical experts towards curtailing the spread of the coronavirus pandemic’’, Eze(Dr.) Anozie concluded.

Nigerians in different parts of the country have continuously complained about  the methods adopted by several state governments in the distribution of palliatives to the people.

Recruit Teachers on Merit Not on Political considerations- Applicants to Oyo Govt.

Applicants fopr the 7,000 teaching jobs in Oyo state have appealed to the state Government to ensure that the recruitment process is not characterized by personal and political  considerations.

The applicants made this appeal at the Teaching Service Commission zonal  offices across the state, during the submission of their completed application forms.

''Government  should not allow the recruitment process to be colorated by political and personal considerations. , but it should be based on merit'', the applicants stated.

Sadly, the questionable recruitment process in the past had resulted in the worrisome attitude  and behavior of students in public schools in the state, with those  in the private schools also in focus.

Cultism, rape and armed robbery are now past times of a sizable number of secondary school students, while parents, guardians and school authorities watch helplessly.

In his views, the Chairman of the state Council of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Comrade Tojuade Adedoyin disclosed that the recruitment was a welcome development saying'' it has been long overdue. However, we are believing that they will follow due process by recruiting qualified teachers on merit and not for political patronage''.

Office of the Tutor-General Alien to Oyo state Civil Service Rules-NUT

The Oyo state Wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers(NUT) says that the office of the Tutor-General is alien to the rules of the state civil service.

Th state  wing of the NUT  made this declaration  last week Saturday  through its state Chairman, Comrade Tojuade Adedoyin at an event to commemorate the 2019 World  Teachers Day in Ibadan.

''The office of the Tutor-General recently  announced by the Honourable Commissioner for Education in the state is strange to existing civil service rules of Oyo state.  Therefore for fairness, equity and justice, the teaching profession should neither be exempted nor isolated from the extant civil service rules'', Comrade Adedoyin stated.

The NUT, however, expressed its gratitude to the state Governor for his approval  of qualified Primary School teachers to be promoted to Grade level 15, adding ''we strongly appeal in furtherance of your unprecedented inclination and love for teachers and the teaching profession that the office of Permanent Secretary(Schools' Administration)should subsist to fill vacancies in al TESCOM  Zonal Offices and among the three  senatorial districts''.

Sadly, a sizable number of teachers, speaking incognito, argued that faulty political appointments was capable of affecting governance negatively.

'' There are several professionals locally, who can deliver, we do not know why they were not engaged'', the teachers wondered.

The general insinuation is that the state government is working to promote unfriendly policies inherited from the immediate past administration, while it also silently introduce certain policies that might not go down well with the people.
